An Oskaloosa robotics team will be competing at the world robotics championship in St. Louis. This past weekend, the Sock Monkeys 4443 competed at the robotics super regional in Iowa City and earned a spot in the championship.

Iowa has 163 robotics teams. The Sock Monkeys are one of three Iowa teams that qualified for the event. The competition will feature 100 teams from the United States, and 28 teams from 16 different countries. The team will only make minor adjustments before the competition.

"We might change some shielding up, but other than that, we are confident in what we can do. We were the highest score in our super regionals, and we were six points under from breaking the world record. So we're looking for just that little extra that we can get," says Sock Monkeys member, and Oskaloosa High School junior, Logan Gross.

The Sock Monkeys have to raise funds to make it to the competition. Right now the team has raised about $1,600. Its goal is to raise $5,000. The Sock Monkeys are confident they'll find support from the community.

"Since we aren't very rich right now, we're kind of struggling along here, but we're hoping to find some financial aid pretty soon," Gross says.

The competition will be held at the Edward Jones Dome from April 23 to April 26.
