Timing is everything for the small town of Beacon in Mahaska County. New businesses are opening and residents are looking forward to RAGBRAI running through Beacon this summer.

The Register's Annual Great Bike Ride Across Iowa will bring thousands of people through town on its way to an overnight stay in Oskaloosa.

Terry and Becky Anderson recently opened their own convenience store in Beacon. The owners wanted to open a business no matter what, but Becky Anderson says RAGBRAI will attract business and attention to her community.

"We are so excited and we are working with the Beacon City Council about setting up out here, have port-o-potties, and just have sales outside, a street dance, a disc jockey. We are really excited about that and hopefully that will go over very well.", Anderson added.

The Andersons plan to open another business in Beacon in the next couple of months. It's called the "Bait O Mat" and will be a bait shop and laundromat in one.
