How much birthday is too much? Print E-mail

When we were kids, a birthday was the highlight of our year.  We expected a party (even if that only meant your grandparents came over), presents (new Cabbage Patch Kid, please) and a dessert shaped like a heart (perhaps this was just me as I was born on Valentine's Day and I got endless things shaped like hearts).

One of A Kind: "The Hodge" MAN's Burger

Hey everyone, A.J. here again!

I know its Heart Health Month, but sometimes you just have to indulge.

This week's blog is all about one of my favorite things...FOOD.  Last week, my friend and I guess I'll call him my personal chef, Michael Glesener made me one of the most fantastic things I've ever eaten.  It had 3 of my favorite things smashed all into one dish.

Hi, blog readers it's Maureen!  Valentine's Day has come and gone---pink heart decorations and heart shaped chocolates are all on sale now. But the entire month of February focuses on hearts, you know....this kind:

Valentine's Day Power Play Print E-mail
Friday, 10 February 2012 14:56

Hi, blog readers! It's Maureen. I know people have all kinds of emotions about Valentine's Day. Some love it, some hate it, some think people make too big of a deal out of it but don't really care about it one way or another.

I've lived through all of those emotions. I threw anti-Valentine's Day parties with my single girlfriends in college. I immediately changed my mind and started to love it my first Valentine's Day with my boyfriend three years ago. But since then, I'm pretty low-maintenance when it comes to February 14th. Yes, please get me chocolate. I am an addict. But other than that, I don't mind it being like any other day.

This year, I won't even be in the same state as my boyfriend, Brian, and to be honest, I'm not bothered by it.

Especially because my present happens to be a post-Valentine's day NHL hockey game.

A Masterpiece Vacation Print E-mail
Friday, 10 February 2012 10:28

By Amy Langdon

As a long time fan of Masterpiece Theatre, I'm excited that PBS has produced a miniseries that is getting even non-period-piece-lovers interested in it's soapy drama.  That miniseries is Downton Abbey.  And since its Emmy win, Downton has been the talk of the town...or at least Facebook.  I've even had a couple friends over for tea and scones and a viewing of the newest episode.

You can imagine my delight then when I got an email announcing a Masterpiece Sweepstakes, with the chance to win a free trip to England complete with tours of the castles and other cool places where Downton was filmed.

Now I'm hesitant to post this, because I don't want to encourage people to enter the sweepstakes and thereby reduce my odds of winning.  I've never been much for entering contests, but when I saw this one, I knew it had to be mine.

So I decided to stack the deck a little bit.  I send an email to my closest friends and family - more specifically, the ones that I knew would take me if they were to win.  I asked that they enter everyday (since you can enter everyday from now til April) and I've gotten emails all week confirming they are equal to the task.

The only problem will be if I win and I have ten people thinking I'm taking them.  But I guess there are worse problems to have.  I'll still be in England!

May the odds be ever in my favor.
